Ileal Duplication Associated with Heterotopic Pancreas

Abstract
The term 'duplication of the alimentary tract' is used for congenital spherical or tubular structures with smooth muscle walls and gastrointestinal type mucosal linings that are firmly attached to, and sometimes in communication with a segment of
the
alimentary tract any where from the mouth to the anus.
Heterotopic pancreas or aberrant pancreatic tissue is histologically similar to normal pancreatic tissue, but it is found in other than its usual location and it has no anatomic or vascular connection with the pancreas itself.
Both are uncommon congenital anomalies, but individual reports of each are increasing. However intestinal duplication, especially in the ileum, that is accompanied by heterotopic pancreas, is extremely rare.
We report a case of ileal duplication associated with heterotopic pancreas in a child, who had abdominal pain mimicking acute appendicitis. A review of the literature is also presented.
